They prevent abrasive particulate matter from entering the engine's cylinders, which can cause oil contamination and mechanical breakdown. Lexus air filters need regular replacement, as a clogged filter can introduce allergens into the interior cabin air stream. Lexus recommends changing them every 10,000 miles.
