On 2004 and later Highlander models, there is a rear heater assembly with a blower motor that can be serviced similarly to the front motor. To access the blower motor, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. The blower unit is located under the dash and below the glove box. If equipped, remove the right lower dash panel located just below the glove box; for 2016 and later Lexus models, the passenger's side kick panel must also be removed to facilitate this. To remove the blower, take out the blower unit retaining screws and lower the unit from the housing. If replacing the motor, transfer the fan to the new motor before installation by using pliers to release and remove the clip, then lift the blower fan off the motor shaft. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, and it is important to check for proper operation afterward.
