For Lexus RX300, RX330, and RX350 models, begin by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the TR sensor, then remove the nut securing the shift control cable to the control shaft lever and disconnect the cable. Remove the nut and washer securing the control shaft lever to the manual valve shaft, then pry open the lockplate tabs and remove the manual valve shaft nut. Next, remove the TR sensor mounting bolts and take out the TR sensor. Remove the air filter housing, then disconnect the control cable from the control shaft. Disconnect the Park/Neutral switch electrical connector, remove the control shaft retaining nut, shaft, and locking washer, and lift the switch assembly off the manual shaft. For installation, slide the TR sensor onto the manual valve shaft and loosely install the mounting bolts. Install a new lockplate and the manual valve shaft nut, then install the control shaft lever on the manual valve shaft, turning it counterclockwise through the gears until it stops, then clockwise two clicks to reach the Neutral position. Align the pointer on the lockplate with the Neutral basic line, install a new lockplate, tighten the manual valve shaft nut securely, and bend the lockplate tabs against the nut. Place the manual shift lever in the Neutral position, install the Park/Neutral switch onto the manual shaft, and temporarily install the mounting bolts. Place the control shaft arm onto the manual shaft, rotate it clockwise until it stops, then counterclockwise two clicks. Verify the pointer on the lockplate aligns with the neutral basic line and tighten the bolts securely. Install the control shaft, washer, and nut, tightening the nut securely. Rotate the control shaft clockwise until it stops, then counterclockwise two clicks, and install the control cable and retaining clip. Complete the installation by reversing the removal steps.
