First of all, mount the crankshaft and main bearing caps, then place the new crankshaft seal in the retainer and bolt it to the block. Also, clean the retainer and then oil the seal's edge before driving it into place. Apply a new gasket with sealant, then gradually tighten the bolts.

First of all, remove the transaxle when you are servicing the crankshaft seal. Another method that works involves removing the oil pan and sealing the retainer. Also, get rid of the old gasket material and the old seal. Install the new seal, lubricate the new seal, position a gasket on the engine block, and install the seal. Make sure the retainer bolts are secured and the retainer aligns with the block.

Take off the transaxle assembly then disconnect the transaxle from the engine. Next, remove the driveplate. Pop off the Crankshaft Seal with the screwdriver from the rear of the automotive engine and be cautious not to harm the crankshaft or apply scratches on the seal bore. See how far the seal is engraved in the bore before pulling out to ensure that the next seal is inserted to that extent. Wipe the interior of the seal bore in the block with a shop towel to ensure that all the oil and dirt have been wiped out. Apply a film of oil on the outside diameter of the new seal and position it over the end of the crankshaft with the help of the accompanying illustration; the lip should face toward the engine side. When possible, secure a seal installation tool to push the new seal back into its position; otherwise, with a large socket, section of a pipe or a blunt tool, carefully push the new seal with equal force back into the seal hole and resting flat against the edge of the engine block. Lastly, the driveplate must be fixed followed by the transaxle to the engine.

This procedure presupposes that the engine is already been extracted from the car. Start by detaching the car's engine/transmission assembly and then the transaxle from the engine along with the extraction of the driveplate. The final part of the improvement pertains to the fact that the Crankshaft Seal may be changed without having to take off the oil pan as well as the seal retainer, with the simplest procedure involving a seal-removal tool. If this tool is not within reach, the lip of the old Crankshaft Seal can be sliced off using a sharp knife that should not hurt the crankshaft in the process. Once the lip is taken off; one can use a screw driver that has been wrapped with tapes to pull out the seal. Next, the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new Crankshaft Seal shall then be greased using multi-purpose grease. Place the new seal into the retainer and using a wood block or section of pipe having an inside diameter a little less than the outside diameter of the seal, drive the seal in the retainer evenly so that it is not cocked in the retainer bore and stands level with the surface of the retainer. The rest of the hanging also goes in the same order as the removal process in reverse order.

Coat the outer edge of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease.

Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer. Ensure that the seal lip is lubricated and that the seal is installed squarely and driven in flush with the surface of the timing chain cover. After installation, check the seal to make sure the spring didn't pop out of place.

The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
