When replacing airbags for Lexus cars made from 2004 onward, follow these steps: turn the steering wheel until it points straight ahead position then turn the key to Off, and disconnect the cable from the battery's negative terminal. On 2004 and later Lexus cars, lift off the small protective flaps on each side of the steering wheel. Then loosen the Torx screws holding the airbag module, by just turning them enough for the screws to catch into grooves in the screw case. Take the airbag module off from the steering wheel, then disconnect the electrical connector that goes with it. Keep the steering wheel nut at the ready while you mark how the steering shaft connects to the steering hub. It helps when you reassemble everything later, and makes sure your steering is straight. Pull the steering wheel off its mount with a puller, instead of using a hammer to hit on the shaft. When you need it, follow these steps: On top, uncover the steering column; detach power connections; slide off each of three large springy clips grasping the cable. During installation, make sure the wheels point straight forward. Slowly rotate the spiral cable by twisting it counterclockwise when you feel resistance, then turn it clockwise again for two and a half turns. Position the two pointers correctly. Position the steering wheel wheel hub's mark on the shaft, then place the wheel onto the shaft. Fasten, then tighten the nut to the recommended torque value. Make sure the electrical connectors go into all the airbag module places directly, and check that each connector has its own locking device. Complete the set up by first installing the airbag module. Tighten the special Torx screws to the manufacturer's recommended force, then reconnect the car's battery negative cable.
