Lexus ES300 Brake Caliper converts the hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder into clamping force that presses the brake pads on the rotor and slows and stops the car. Made from strong cast iron bodies with steel or phenolic pistons, each Brake Caliper simply uses incompressible brake fluid flowing through its bores, seals, ports, and bleeder screws to move its piston smoothly. Fixed calipers are bolted solidly into place and have opposing pistons on both rotor faces, which provide uniform pad pressure and performance, whereas floating units are mounted on slide pins and only have pistons on the inboard side, with the housing movement applied to engage both pads, which is a simpler design but is more prone to pin corrosion and sticking. - Q: How to replace calipers on Lexus ES300?A:Always replace the calipers in pairs - never replace just one of them. To remove, first loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheels. Next, remove the brake hose banjo bolt and disconnect the hose from the caliper. Plug the hose to keep contaminants out of the brake system and to prevent losing any more brake fluid than necessary. Using a piece of rubber hose of the appropriate size, plug the brake line banjo filling to prevent brake fluid from leaking out and to prevent dirt and moisture from contaminating the fluid in the hose. Then, remove the caliper mounting bolts and the caliper. If necessary, remove the caliper torque plate from the steering knuckle or rear axle carrier. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Remember to install new sealing washers on either side of the brake hose banjo fitting. They should be included with the rebuild kit. Tighten the caliper mounting bolts and torque plate bolts, if removed, to the torque. Bleed the brake system. Finally, install the wheels and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque.
