2015 and later RX 330 models added two solenoid systems. A key lock system and a Shift Lock Module near the brake pedal and transmission sensor control the shift lock solenoid under the console. From 2015 onwards the traditional shift lock solenoid and module have been replaced by a steering lock electronic control unit and its connected actuator. When you switch the key to LOCK the shift lock module blocks movement from PARK until you press the brake pedal first. You must also return the lever to PARK before locking the ignition again. Check that you must press the brake pedal to move the shift lever out of PARK and that the ignition key can only be pulled from the PARK position. Also ensure the ignition key changes to LOCK from OFF only in PARK and the shift lever cannot move from PARK when the ignition key is in OFF, RUN, START, ACC or LOCK mode. Our team will need to make repairs when any problem occurs with BTSI system functions. Unplug the negative battery cable to get to the key lock solenoid under the steering column trim. Disconnect the solenoid and unscrew its mounting screws afterwards. To get to the shift lock module want you to disconnect all the parts that sit above: shift lever assembly, console bulb connector, position indicator slide cover, and lower housing before separating the harness pins and unplugging the module from its base. When the transmission range sensor detects Park/Neutral position it blocks engine start and prevents turning the key in other gears. Adjustments are necessary when the engine starts unexpectedly in gear other than Park or Neutral. When BTSI stops working you can take control of the vehicle by pressing the override button next to the shift lever but only when ignition is in the LOCK position. Beginning with 2015 models you must pry open a protective cap to use this feature.
