Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery for Highlander models and 1999 through 2003 RX 300 models. Remove the center console trim panel, followed by the floor carpet and the lower trim panel. Disconnect the
Shift Cable from the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers at the console and the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers electrical connectors from the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly at the center console. Remove the mounting bolts and separate the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers from the console, noting the location of the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers mounting bolts, with a 2001 Highlander as an example. For 2004 and later RX 330 models, begin by removing the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers knob by rotating it counterclockwise. Next, remove the four clips and lift the console panel from the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly, then remove the two clips and lift the trim panel from below the radio. Remove the front door cowl side trim panels and the scuff plates from the right and left door openings, followed by the center console trim panel and the glove compartment door assembly. Again, remove the floor carpet and the lower trim panel, disconnect the shift cable from the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers at the console, and disconnect the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers electrical connectors. Finally, remove the mounting bolts and separate the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers from the console, with the remainder of installation being the reverse of removal.
