To remove the fuel tank in a vehicle, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the
Fuel Pump/
Fuel Level Sensor. If the tank is full, siphon the fuel into an approved container. Next, raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. The steps for removing the fuel tank vary depending on the model and year of the vehicle. For 2007 and earlier models, remove the center part of the exhaust system and the driveshaft if applicable. Remove the fuel tank protector and heat shield, and disconnect the fuel filler neck hose and EVAP hoses. For 2007 RX 350 and all 2008 and later models, remove the front, center floor cover, and rear exhaust pipe assembly. Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly and exhaust pipe support bracket. For 2WD models, remove the fuel tank heat shield and charcoal canister protector plate. For 4WD models, remove the rear driveshaft, heat shield, and charcoal canister protector plate. For all models, support the fuel tank securely and remove the bolts from the fuel tank retaining straps. Carefully lower the tank and ensure all electrical harnesses, fuel lines, and EVAP system hoses are disconnected. Finally, lower the fuel tank to the ground and tighten the fuel tank strap bolts securely.
