Take the cable off from the car's negative battery terminal. To remove the knee bolster, driver's trim panel, and passenger's trim panel, note these differences: when your vehicle has Smart Key, pry the trim out to disconnect the "Power" button electrical cable. Use your fingers to slowly push the trim panels apart along the gaps between the instrument panel, until the clips let go, and remove the panels. Push the shift knob counterclockwise and pull it straight off. When working with automatic transaxle cars, push up and lift the floor shift indicator from the console cautiously until the clips break free, pull out all electrical cables, then remove the whole indicator unit. To reach the floor shift cover on manual transaxle cars, lift the cup holder lid and slowly free the cover from the console by prying until all clips release. Take out the boot and cover from under the console. In ES350 models, lift up the seat heater switch panel to release the 4 holding clips, pull the electrical plug, and take off the switch. Unscrew the panel's top trim piece from the floor console, until the mounting clips release, then remove it all together. To get the box out, unscrew and then use a hand prying tool to pull out lower storage box until you can disconnect electrical wiring. When working on ES350 models, first pry the center register panel above the center trim panel loose, then disconnect the electrical connector. Make sure you know that you need to remove the assembly holding both the radio and trim together as one unit. Take the screws out from the front of each side panel and slide the sides off, breaking free the clips next to the screws on ES350 cars. Push the back panel of the center console away from the front, breaking its grip to let you take it off. Then unscrew the bolts at the console's end. First, open the armrest, take out the console pocket if your car has one, and gently pull up the carpet from underneath the console. Loosen and unscrew the mounting hardware, then lift the console out. Look out for a bottom mounting clip that needs to be released after lifting on some models. Installation is the reverse of removal.
