The procedure that follows applies to strut assemblies that are not incorporated into electronically modulated air suspension. If the struts or coil springs show any signs of leakage, loss of damping force or any form of physical damage look at all the possibilities before beginning any work, as the strut/shock absorber assemblies are non-repairable units and if a problem is evident, the only solution is replacement. Preassembled strut assemblies including springs may be procured on an exchange basis, where available, which is convenient. But when disassembling the vehicle, see if the parts are fairly priced or if they are easily available in the market. To dismantle, remove the strut and spring assembly before fixing in a wooden or padded vice and don't over-tighten. Fit a spring compressor in the way that the manufacturer directs so that pressure is removed from the upper spring seat, this can be confirmed by shaking the spring. Remove the nut of the damper shaft and suspension support, check the rotation of the bearing and the state of the rubber. Detaching the top of the spring seat to the damper shaft-consider if it is cracked and its hardness-then take out the upper insulator. Remove the compressed spring from the assembly being careful not to point its ends towards your self and remove the rubber bumper of the damper shaft. Inspect the lower insulator; if worn, replace the lower insulator with a new one. For reassembly, if fitting a new lower insulator fix this into place and then protrude the damper rod and finally fit the rubber bumper. Position the coil spring in such a manner that one end of it will sit in the lower insulator. Place the upper insulator with the mark to be oriented towards the strut bracket and then fit the spring seat to the damper shaft you should see the flat of the two parts interlocking. OUT mark of the spring upper seat should be placed on the upper insulator mark and the arrow on the spring seat should be facing the lower bracket in case of front struts. Bolt the outer dust seal and suspension support to the damper shaft, apply and tighten the damper nut to the prescribed torque, withdraw the spring compressor tool and re-fit the strut/spring assembly.
