Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Place the ignition key in the ACC position. Remove the steering wheel. Remove the steering column covers. Remove the steering column switches. Unplug the ignition switch wiring harness connector and key light connector (if equipped). Remove the interlock solenoid mounting screws and disengage the ignition switch mounting clips, then pull the switch from the housing. Installation is reverse of removal. Carefully pry the transponder key amplifier switch mounting clips outwards and slide the transponder forward to detach it and the bracket from the steering column. Turn the ignition switch to ON (ACC). Use a small screwdriver or punch inserted into the hole in the top of the steering column bracket to depress the locking claw and pull the Ignition Lock Cylinder out until its claw comes into contact with the stopper of the steering column bracket. Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the hole inside of the steering column bracket and tilt it downward to disengage the claw. Pull the Ignition Lock Cylinder out. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. After replacing the steering lock actuator assembly, perform the key ID code registration by opening and closing the driver's door. The engine may not start until the driver's door has been opened and closed. Remove the steering column and place the column in a soft jaw vise. Using a grinder or small hacksaw blade, cut a slot into the steering lock shear bolt heads. Use a screwdriver to back the bolts out and remove the actuator. Install the steering lock actuator and steering column clamp with new steering lock shear-head bolts, then tighten the bolts until their heads break off.
