When adjusting the shift lever inside the vehicle, ensure that it moves smoothly and accurately to each position and that the shift indicator displays the correct gear position. If the indicator is misaligned, follow these steps: Remove the battery and battery tray. Remove the nut connecting the shift cable to the manual lever on the transaxle. Move the shift lever to the Neutral position and ensure the manual lever on the transaxle is also in Neutral. On certain models, move the manual lever into Park and then back two clicks into Neutral. On other models, verify alignment between the switch body and switch hub. Slide the boot back from the end of the cable and move the slider towards the end of the cable, lifting the lock upwards. Install the cable to the manual lever, tighten the nut securely, and push the lock down to secure the slider piece. Check the operation of the transaxle in each shift lever position and readjust the cable if necessary. Slide the boot cover back over the adjuster assembly. For replacement, disconnect the cable from the manual lever and remove the C-clip cable retainer from the bracket above the manual lever. Remove the center console and the bolts from the cable housing retainer on the floor inside the vehicle. Pry off the cable end from the shift housing and disconnect the cable eye from the shift lever pin. Pull the cable through the floor and then reverse the removal steps for installation. Adjust the cable.
