All exterior light bulbs for 2008 or older Highlanders and 2009 or earlier Lexus vehicles include front signal bulbs and side light bulbs inside the
Headlight housing. When your Highlander or Lexus has turn signal lights below their side mirrors, take the mirror cover off carefully, disconnect the electrical wire, and unclip the light housing like a kit-you must replace the whole unit. You need to do three steps to swap out the front turn signal/parking and side marker light bulb. First, take out the headlight housing, then grasp the bulb holder and rotate it counter-clockwise to remove it, then pull it free. To remove the bulb, press it into the holder, rotate it anti-clockwise until it comes loose, and pull the bulb out. Reassembly is simply reversing this process. To remove fog lamp bulbs, raise the front of your vehicle, disconnect the electrical connector, turn the bulb holder to the left, and pull it out. Unscrew the panel inside the boot to locate and remove the back brake, tail, turn signal, and brake backup light bulbs. To change lamp bulbs, first rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise, pull it straight out, and then pull the bulb out of its holder. Installation works in the opposite direction. To get at the taillight housing, start by disconnecting its wired connections inside the car. Find and loosen the housing nuts there and then continue outside where you free the housing holding screws so you can take it off the entire rear bumper. To fix the lift gate taillight housing, first take off the trim panels. Pull the bulb holder counterclockwise and put it back into place. Replace the bulb when done. Disconnect the power connections, unscrew the housing nuts, and carefully detach the lift gate housing from behind. Keep track of the exterior clip when you do this. To change a license plate light bulb, unscrew the housing screws and pull off the housing. Then, pull the bulb straight out. Installation follows the same steps in reverse order. To access the bulb for your interior lights (map reading and dome), pop off the mushroom-shaped tip of the housing, grip the bulb firmly, and pull straight down from the metal clips to disconnect. Reassembling the bulb is the same, but in reverse.
