Unplug the negative terminal of the battery, take off the center console trim panel, and lift out the floor carpet and instrument panel center lower trim panel. To begin, unplug the battery and drop out its compartment. Then, remove the filter air casing and intake ducts. Take off the shift cable from the gear-end in the trunk of the vehicle, remembering where the manual shift lever goes for different models. Take off the large C-clip holding the shift cable in place on the transaxle's side bracket, and slide the cable out of the wire guide on top of the transaxle. For Lexus RX300, RX330, and RX350 models, separate the air conditioner and free the shift cable from the steering lever in the center console using special trim panel instruments. Undo the bolts from the shift cable bracket at the firewall. Then, pull the cable toward you through the floor. Repositioning the wires counts as installation in reverse order. Check how the cables fit afterward. The shift lever within the car should react without hesitation and correctly select gears every time the driver changes its position from Neutral. The gear position indicator must show the correct gear while doing this. To make adjustments, first take out the battery and remove the battery tray. Then disconnect the shift cable from the lever on top of the transaxle. Push the lever down into PARK, then return it to NEUTRAL. Place the shift lever inside the car in the NEUTRAL position, and tighten the swivel nut. While the manual lever stays in NEUTRAL, firmly adjust the shift cable bolt and make sure the car shifts correctly in every position, with the starter working correctly in Park and Neutral.
