Lexus 90311-42037 Type T Oil Seal

Remove the engine/transaxle assembly and separate the transaxle from the engine. Remove the flywheel or driveplate and pry the Crankshaft Seal from the engine's rear, noting its depth for new seal installation. Clean the seal bore thoroughly. Lubricate the new seal's outside diameter and install it over the crankshaft end, ensuring the seal lip points towards the engine. Use a seal installation tool to press the new seal into place. If unavailable, use a large socket or blunt tool to drive the seal into the bore. Reinstall the flywheel or driveplate, reattach the transaxle to the engine, and reinstall the assembly.

First of all, remove the crankshaft pulley and pry out the seal from the timing chain cover, ensuring not scratch the crankshaft. Clean the bore in the cover and apply oil or grease to the new seal. Use a seal driver or socket to drive the new Crankshaft Seal into place with a hammer. Check the seal's spring hasn't dislodged.

If the surface on the pulley hub has been grooved from long-time contact with the seal, the pulley should be replaced.

Lubricate the outside diameter of the seal and install the seal over the end of the crankshaft, ensuring the lip of the seal points toward the engine. Preferably, use a seal installation tool to press the new seal back into place. If the tool is unavailable, use a large socket, section of pipe, or a blunt tool to carefully drive the new seal squarely into the seal bore and flush with the edge of the engine block.

Note how the seal is installed - the new one must be installed to the same depth and facing the same way.

The crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new seal should be lubricated with multi-purpose grease.
