To uninstall the control arm, both the wheel lug nuts of the side to be worked on must be loosened and then followed by lifting the front part of the vehicle with a jack and placing it on jackstands, then remove the wheel. Then it will be necessary to remove the transverse engine mount in the subframe which covers the forward mounting bolts for the control arms which is quite a tricky job and which can be done only if you have an engine lifting hoist or support fixture. Subsequently, point to the
Ball Joint retaining bolt and nuts and take off the control arm from the ball joint using a pry-bar. Next, remove the two bolts that hold the front of the control arm to the engine cradle-then before or after this procedure, remove the height sensor linkage on the electronically modulated air suspension Lexus' control arms. Move to the removal of a bolt and a nut that hold the rear part of the control arm to the engine cradle then pull out the control arm. For inspection, make sure that the control arm is straight; however, if the control arm is bent, do not try to straighten it but to remove it and get a new one. Look for signs of crack, tear or undue wear on the bushings and replace the control arm as and when required. If installing, then unwind them in the reverse sequence to removal, while tightening all the fasteners to the prescribed torque. Lastly, replace the wheel and the lug nuts, lower the car and finally, tighten the lug nuts to the recommended torque value and after the job, one can take his car for front wheel alignment check and adjustment if relevant.
